Bryn Morris | “It’s a big couple of games coming up now..."

22 March 2024

Newport County midfielder Bryn Morris believes that there’s still plenty of “points to play for” as his side head to Barrow on Saturday afternoon.

The Exiles begin their Sky Bet League Two run-in with a trip to Cumbria as the look to make it three consecutive wins on the spin following impressive victories over Morecambe and AFC Wimbledon.

Morris, who joined the Exiles in June 2023, has become an integral part of County’s midfield this season, netting seven goals and providing four assists in a record season for the star.

And the midfielder is pleased to see his hard-work transform onto the pitch ahead of the season’s run-in.

“It’s certainly up there,” he began when describing last weekend’s goal at Wimbledon.

“The goal against Walsall was probably a little bit better, but in terms of the technique, I thought it was good.

“OZ did really well for the goal in all fairness. I feel like he brings something a little bit different which is good to have. All strikers have something different and since he’s returned from injury he’s certainly added to our attacking threat.

“It would be great to add to my tally with the games that remain this season. Playing games consistently breads confidence and that’s certainly been the key for me this season.

“The manager has shown great faith in me and I’m looking to finish the season strongly. I’m really enjoying things at the moment with the club and long may that continue.”

He added: “It’s a big couple of games coming up now. You’ve got the Easter schedule which is Friday, Monday, Saturday, and even so after that, there’s a lot of points still to play for.

"The season is unpredictable and it’s one of the tightest it’s ever been. It sounds cliché but we take it game by game, starting with Barrow on Saturday.

“They’re having a great season and coming towards the back end of the season it’s all about timing and putting a run of games together.

"We’ve played team around us a lot over the last few weeks and got positive results, but then we’ve played the likes of Mansfield and MK Dons where we were off it and we didn’t get the right result.

“Last week was a massive result for us. Any away win is impressive but to get one away at Wimbledon and a clean sheet was massive. It just goes to show what we can do on our day and what we’re about.

“We’re all just looking forward to tomorrow now and hopefully we can finish the season as strong as possible.”
