Exiles on the Road | Colchester Away Day Guide

26 March 2024

Newport County begin their Easter weekend with a visit to Colchester United on Friday afternoon. After travelling to Barrow on Saturday, Friday’s trip promises to be another long day for supporters. Let us lighten the load by providing you with all of the information you need ahead of Friday’s game.

Where is the JobServe Community Stadium?

JobServe Community Stadium is located at:

United Way

Colchester

CO4 5UP

Where will Newport fans be during the game?

Away supporters will be located in the northern side of the JobServe Stand.

How do I get to JobServe Community Stadium?

The following are the easiest ways to get to Colchester this Friday afternoon:

Car

The JobServe Community Stadium is around 210 miles from Rodney Parade. The drive would usually take around 4 hours, making it one of the longest of the season. Fans who are driving should also consider bank holiday traffic and give themselves even more time to ensure they make it for kick-off.

Train

It would be fair to say that Colchester is one of the most difficult grounds to get to on the train from Newport. Going from Newport to Colchester this Friday will take around four and a half hours and require you to change four times and use a rail replacement bus. It will also cost you in excess of £100.

To give yourself time to get to the stadium, you will probably need to take the train at 08:30 to London Paddington. This arrives at 10:14. You will then need to take the tube to Liverpool street on the Elizabeth Line, heading towards Shenfield.

From there, get the 11:14 train to Billericay, arriving at 11:45. Here, you will need to take a rail replacement service from Billericay to Witham. Finally, at 12:47, take the Greater Anglia train from Witham to Colchester. You will arrive in Colchester, providing there are no disruptions, at 13:05.

Coach

Getting to Colchester on Friday is going to be difficult, so why not let the NCAFC Supporter’s Club handle the pressure and take one of their coaches, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a day-off work on the coach.

Can I park near the stadium?

There are some parking options available at Colchester, but spaces are limited. The Us official site has this information:

Please note that there is only limited car parking at the stadium itself, with just under 700 spaces in the main stadium car park.

These are available on a match by match basis and can be pre-booked online at www.colutickets.com (including a Print At Home service) or via the Ticket Office by calling 01206 755161.

Parking in advance is £6 and, whilst some permits at this price may be available on the day, matchday parking is typically £7 per car.

Visiting supporters are able to pre-book a car parking permit, and early booking is advisable.

There is also a Park & Ride car park located at:

Cuckoo Farm Way,

Off A12 Junction28,

Colchester

CO4 5JA

Fans can use this, and it is around a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium. The Colchester site also recommends parking in the city centre and using one of the many car-parks available there. It advises:

If parking in a town centre car park, visiting fans can buy a ticket on the number 65 bus on Head Street, which drops off in Mill Road, which is a 10 minute walk to the stadium. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the town centre and visiting fans may find that getting to the ground in this way is an enjoyable one.

Fans should also note that there are strict parking restrictions in residential areas around the stadium.

How far is the train station to Colchester United?

Walking to the JobServe Community Stadium is possible, but it will take around 45 minutes. Instead, fans can either take a taxi from the stadium, which will take around 10 minutes, or they can turn right under the railway bridge and find the bus stop. This serves the numbers 2, 8, and 65, all of which will get you within walking distance of the stadium.

Where to eat and drink locally

The JobServe Community Stadium is not the best-located stadium for food and drink. The nearest pub to the ground is the Dog and Pheasant, which is around a 15-20 minute walk away.

Near there, you can find the Myland Fisheries chip shop, which is a popular spot for some pre-match fish and chips.

Of course, Colchester also provide food and drink in the away end for fans.

Last time out

Newport County v Colchester United highlights

Our last match with Colchester United occurred on a cold Tuesday night at Rodney Parade in October. The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute through Samson Tovide before Will Evans managed to turn an Adam Lewis effort into the net just before half-time. This turned the tide, and in the 63rd minute, some nice link-up play between Will Evans, Aaron Wildig, and Omar Bogle saw the latter poke it past the Colchester keeper to give us the win and three points at Rodney Parade.
