MATCH PREVIEW: PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

19 October 2016

Brush up on your facts, ahead of Saturday's visit of Plymouth Argyle.

Looking at the visitors

Plymouth could have barely had a better start to the season, they currently find themselves top of the league, unbeaten in their last eleven league games and they are already three points clear of Doncaster Rovers in second and seven points clear of the playoff places. Graham Carey is their top scorer so far this season with five goals to his league tally, Jake Jervis has four and Sonny Bradley has three. County’s defence is going to get extremely tested in this fixture as Plymouth have scored in every game since August 13th, and they have kept five clean sheets so far this season.

Last Meeting

Newport fell by four goals to one in the opening game of the group stage of the Checkatrade Trophy when they travelled to Plymouth at the end of August. After Jordan Green put Newport ahead on 19 minutes the home side scored four second half goals to take all three points.

Last Time Out

A Tom Eaves goal ten minutes from time was the only goal of the game when the Exiles travelled down to Yeovil. The result has left Newport five points adrift of the rest of the league at the bottom but with a game in hand against Barnet, the other side currently in the bottom two, County have the opportunity to pull themselves back over the coming weeks.

The Man in Charge

Michael Salisbury is in charge for this fixture with his assistants Wayne Barratt and Andrew Hendley, the fourth official is Adam Matthews. This is Salisbury’s second season on the list after taking charge of National League games last year and he has taken charge of one Newport game before, the victory over Leyton Orient in August. In his career he has taken charge of 30 games handing out 56 yellow cards and 6 red cards.
