STRIKER MARLON JACKSON SIGNS FOR COUNTY

27 July 2016

Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the signing of striker Marlon Jackson on a one-year deal.

The striker, who has been on trial with the Exiles over the course of pre-season, will add to Manager Warren Feeney's striking options for the season ahead.

The twenty-five-year-old forward began his career at Bristol City and gained first-team experience during loan spells at Aldershot, Hereford, Cheltenham Town and AFC Telford.

In 2012 Marlon joined Hereford FC and bagged seven goals over the course of his season at Edgar Street, before joining Bury in 2013.

Over the past three seasons Marlon has had spells with Halifax, Oxford City and Tranmere Rovers.

The striker has been on trial with the Exiles since the start of pre-season and travelled to Poland with the squad for the pre-season training camp. Over the course of pre-season Marlon has found the net on four occasions, including a late brace in Tuesday's 8-1 victory over Weston-Super-Mare.

Speaking after signing the paperwork on his deal to join Newport County AFC, Marlon insisted that he is looking forward to making his stay with the Club permanent.

"I'm delighted to get everything signed and I am happy to be a Newport County AFC player for the season ahead,” said the striker.

"I have enjoyed working with the players here during pre-season. The players are all working hard and everyone is pulling in the right direction."

"The style we are playing suits my game, as I look to get in behind the defence and move into the channels. I think the strikers we have here at the moment compliment each other well and I’m looking forward to working alongside them this season."

Manager Warren Feeney added, "I have been impressed with what we have seen of Marlon during pre-season."

"He has settled in well to the squad we have here and he has managed to score goals which always helps with confidence. You can see that he just wants to keep on learning and he is enthusiastic in training."

"Marlon has a great amount of pace and that will be a good benefit for us next season. We have given him a chance during pre-season and Marlon has earned his opportunity here and I think his signing will be a good bit of business for us."
