Looking at...Stevenage

28 July 2015

Chris Gadsby continues his look at this seasons League Two teams, with Stevenage.

Full Name: Stevenage Football Club

Nickname: The Boro

Founded: 1976

Ground: The Lamex Stadium (Capacity: 7,100 of which 3,412 are seated)

Record against County: Played 2, Won 1, Drawn 0, Lost 1, Goals For 2, Goals Against 3

Last Season: 6th – A good season for Stevenage last year that ended with heartbreak in the playoff semi-finals when they lost 4-2 on aggregate to the eventual winners Southend United. They were the third best side in the league at home last year scoring 48 out of their 72 points at home. Similarly to Portsmouth who were reviewed yesterday, Stevenage conceded quite a few goals towards the end of games, 13 in the last 15 minutes of games, mainly on their travels. A team that starts games well though, scoring 12 in the first fifteen minutes of games and they scored first in 60% of games last campaign, something they will be looking to do again this year.

Key player: Charlie Lee – a versatile player whose capable of playing in midfield or defence and capable in front of goal, finished with nine goals last season making him the clubs leading scorer. He played every game for Boro last season, cementing his position as a key player in their squad.

Fixtures: August 15th (H) April 16th (A)

Prediction: With manager Teddy Sheringham in the dugout the players will definitely have inspiration on the sidelines and the ex-England player has put together a strong squad for the upcoming campaign. Their fans will be hoping for nothing less than another playoff place but the league is very strong this year and they will have a battle on their hands to achieve this although if they do miss out on a top seven spot it will not be by much.
