Last meeting
A Tyler Blackwood goal 22 minutes from time gave Newport County their first win of the season when they travelled up to the North of England at the end of September. After coming on as a substitute for Aaron Collins just seven minutes earlier he made an instant impact when he headed home from a Twumasi cross, after only arriving at the club two days before the fixture on an emergency loan from QPR.
Last Time Out
After last weekend’s game against Barnet was postponed it was two week ago when Newport had a fantastic away win at Morecambe with two goals from Scott Boden, the first of which came just a minute into the game. The home side were level when Shaun Miller found the net on the hour mark only for Boden to restore Newport’s goal advantage nine minutes later which they held onto until the end of the match and in turn increased the gap between themselves and the bottom two to seven points. After Dagenham and Redbridge lost to Wycombe in midweek Newport now have a game in hand over them which could potentially increase the gap between themselves and the bottom two to 10 points.
The man in charge
Lee Collins is this weekend’s referee with his assistants Andrew Quin and Daniel Leach. The fourth official is Marvyn Amphlett. Collins handed out 10 yellow cards when Newport travelled to Fratton Park last season in their 1-0 victory over Portsmouth and he also came to Rodney Parade twice in three weeks for Newport’s home fixtures against Cheltenham Town and Hartlepool United. In the 2013/14 season he again made two visits to South Wales when he was in the middle for County’s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers and their 3-1 win over Southend United. In all he has handed out 22 yellow cards in the 5 games he has taken charge of the Exiles.
