A left-sided defender, Wayne joined County in December 2010 to add his extensive experience of both playing and coaching, having run coaching schools for Arsenal. He signed for Dundalk in January 2010 where he was player coach and played for them in the Europa League earlier this season. He started his career with Swindon Supermarine and Witney Town before joining Forest Green Rovers, where his form persuaded Oxford United to pay £35,000 for him in December 2000. He made 52 appearances before moving to Chester City in the summer of 2002, staying 17 months and making 42 appearances before Jan Molby's Kidderminster Harriers paid £8,000 and he was both team captain and Player of the Year at Aggborough, before moving to Rushden & Diamonds in January 2006. He stayed for a further two seasons, playing regularly and Cambridge United parted with £20,000 to secure his signature in January 2008 and he had two seasons as a regular before crossing the Irish Sea.
