Attacking player Ryan arrived at Spytty Park during the January transfer window on loan from Cambridge United.  Joining the Luton Town Academy as a nine-year old, Ryan proved to be a prolific goal scorer at junior level, going on to make 23 appearances for the first team, scoring three times – including a strike versus Oldham during the latter part of the 2007/8 campaign voted ‘Hatters Goal of the Season’ by supporters.  Whilst at Kenilworth Road, he also enjoyed loan spells with Hitchin Town, Hinckley United, Kettering and Kidderminster; before signing for Rushden & Diamonds in May, 2010, upon his eventual release.  Charles racked up 39 appearances for Diamonds last season under a certain Justin Edinburgh, netting seven times before that enforced move to Cambridge last summer following the club’s unfortunate demise.  Ryan has scored twice for the U’s this season; including the winning goal here at Spytty when the two clubs met in September.
