MATCH REPORT: YEOVIL TOWN

15 October 2016

County defeated by a late goal at Huish Park.

Manager Graham Westley made three changes from the side that held Colchester to a 0-0 draw last weekend, with Sean Rigg, Marlon Jackson and loanee Josh Sheehan all recalled to the starting line-up.

The Exiles named academy prospect Finn Wood on the bench, alongside Kyle Cameron, who returned from international duty with Scotland U21's this week.

Hosts Yeovil named an unchanged side to the team that beat Wycombe Wanderers at Huish Park last Saturday.

There was an early scare for the Exiles as the ball broke to Otis Khan inside the area and the midfielder was able to keep his balance before sending an effort towards goal that took a heavy deflection that wrong-footed Joe Day, but thankfully the ball bounced wide of the post.

County enjoyed a succession of early corners and a well worked short corner routine found the run of Jon Parkin who was able to direct an effort on goal that was stabbed clear in the six-yard area.

Chances were few and far between in the first-half, but Joe Day was called into action when a deep corner into the County box was met by Ryan Hedges who was able to send a header back across goal that required an acrobatic save from Joe Day to push his attempt over the bar.

Into the second half and as the rain lashed down in Somerset, County were able to force an opportunity on goal when Jon Parkin played a well-weighted pass to play Jennison Myrie-Williams through on goal. The winger advanced to the edge of the area and hit a powerful effort that zipped wide of the post.

County were able to create another opportunity moments later when Ben Tozer's neat footwork allowed him to dig out a cross on the right that found Scot Bennett inside the six-yard box, but the skipper couldn't keep his header on target.

The home side responded with opportunities of their own, with a long-range cross by Nathan Smith dipping on target and requiring Joe Day to be alert to push his delivery past the post.

Just nine minutes before full-time Yeovil were able to take the lead, when a low cross from Hedges was deflected into the net by Dan Butler at the far-post.

Youngster Finlay Wood was brought on to replace Josh Sheehan, as the Academy graduate made his Football League debut, but County weren't able to create any chances for an equaliser during the closing stages.
