Ben White and Calaum Jahraldo attended a Show Racism the Red Card event yesterday

29 November 2017

Yesterday, we welcomed Show Racism the Red Card to Rodney Parade for their annual Educational Club event.

Young people from Lliswerry Primary and Ringland Primary school attended the event and took part in a day packed with educational activities, workshops and fun!

Former Wales and Newport County AFC player, Steve Jenkins, delivered a workshop in the morning educating the students on the topic of racism using interactive activities and discussions whilst in the afternoon the pupils took part in a press conference.

Pupils from both schools had been asked  prior to attending the event were asked to prepare for the afternoons anti-racism “press conference” by creating a fictional newspaper, researching racism in sport and society, and preparing questions to ask.

In the afternoon pupils watched our educational film, which gave them a last opportunity to obtain further knowledge on the topic before the question and answer session in our “media / press conference event”

Defenders Ben White and Calaum Jahraldo-Martin joined Steve Jenkins in the hotseat for the afternoon's  press conference and were grilled by the students who'd come up with some fantastic and challenging questions.

The prize winners for asking the best questions were Alfie and Emily (photos below) who won a Newport County AFC football along with a SRtRC goodie bag.
