ACADEMY PREVIEW| The Young Exiles will take on Risca in the second round of the FAW Youth Cup

28 October 2017

This Sunday we face Risca United away from home in the FAW Youth Cup, looking to progress into the third round of the competition.

This week’s preview includes a look back at last year’s competition; and a statement regarding the fixture from Risca United.

A look back – FAW Youth Cup 16/17

Last year, we experienced great success in the competition, making it into the semi-finals last year against current holders Swansea City.

Last season’s competition started with a 7-0 away win against Barry Town United, in the second round of the cup. Wins against Pontardawe Town and Newtown at home in the third round and the quarter-final respectively, set up a massive semi-final against Swansea City in March 2017.

Unfortunately, the Young Exiles were knocked out against Swansea, losing the match 1-0 in extra-time after Causso Darame converted a free-kick from outside the box in the 113th minute.

County had chances to progress to the final – Modou Touray saw a shot blocked off the line in extra-time at 0-0, instead losing to the eventual winners of the competition.

This year, the Young Exiles will look to go one step further and win the cup!

Risca have already improved in this campaign, having been knocked out in the first-round last year after a 3-2 loss against Tredegar.

Statement – Risca United AFC

“Spectators and other visitors are required to park vehicles at the nearby Risca Railway Station car park.” (free)

“Then they have to walk the 200 yards (along Isaf Road) to the ground.”

“Parking in the very narrow Mill Street & Isaf Road should be avoided as residents get very upset and have been known to contact the Police.”

“It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to assist us in managing this situation.”
