Mickey Demetriou

Date of birth

178 cm

A solid defender with a good eye for goal - Mickey Demetriou turned himself into a County legend with an incredible run of form at the end of the 2016/17 Season which helped The Exiles pull of the greatest of Great Escapes.

Mickey Demetriou began his career at Worthing before heading to Bognor Regis Town.  A brief spell with Spanish side Jerez Industrial occured before his return to the UK in 2011 where he joined Eastbourne Borough in the Conference.

Mickey then enjoyed a successful spell at Kidderminster Harriers before taking the step to league football in 2014 when he joined Shrewsbury Town.  He scored three goals that season and was first-team regular deployed as a Left Back or Left Wing-Back as the team earned promotion to League One.

A difficult run of injuries saw him forced him to spend almost 10 months away from the football pitch.  After joining The Exiles in January 2017, he made his debut on 21st of that month and went on to make a further 16 appearances.

April 2017 saw Mickey (and the team) go on a remarkable run of form which included the defender keeping four cleansheets and scoring three goals (two of which were match winners).  His efforts saw him crowned EFL's April League 2 Player of the Month and went a long way to helping secure the Club's league status in the #GreatEscape.

DID YOU KNOW: Mickey began his football career as a striker at non-league level before joining the Glen Hoddle Academy in Spain and being converted into a Defender.
