Nick Townsend signed for Newport County on the 4th August 2018, making his debut in a 4-1 win against Cambridge United in the 1st round of the Carabao Cup.
Townsend is new signing at Newport County and will battle for the No.1 spot with current keeper Joe Day. After signing from Barnsley, Townsend appears to be settling in well with the squad which can only bode well for his Newport County career.
Townsend began his footballing career for the Birmingham Youth Academy for the under 9s and took a scholarship with the team in 2011. Townsend went on to make his professional debut for Oxford after signing for them on loan in 2013 and had his contract extended by Birmingham on his return to the West Midlands club. After his loan at Oxford, Townsend had two loan spells at Lincoln City where he made 31 appearances before returning to Birmingham and captaining the development side to a Birmingham Senior Cup trophy in 2015.
After his success with the Birmingham development squad, Townsend was signed on loan by Barnsley and signed a three-year permanent deal with the club on the 1st September 2015. Townsend made 17 appearances for Barnsley before joining Newport in 2018.
