Aaron Wildig joined Newport County in June 2022. The midfielder arrived at the club with a wealth of Football League experience under his belt, having helped both Shrewsbury Town and Morecambe secure promotion to League Two earlier in his career.
Wildig’s career started in South Wales. He made his professional debut at 17 for the Bluebirds in a League Cup encounter against Dagenham and Redbridge. He spent three more years at Cardiff, having loan spells at Hamilton Academical and Shrewsbury Town before joining Shrewsbury full-time in 2012.
He would spend three years in Shropshire, helping Shrewsbury secure promotion to League One in 2011/12. A successful loan spell at Morecambe in 2014/15 would lead to him signing for the Lancashire club full-time for the start of the 2015/16 campaign.
This would be the most fruitful spell of Wildig’s career, spending seven seasons at the club and making 213 appearances across all competitions. He also helped Morecambe to promotions via the play-offs in 2020/21.
After a season in League One, Wildig’s time at Morecambe would finally come to an end. He joined Newport in June 2022, making 28 league appearances in his first full season with us.
