MATCH PREVIEW: MANSFIELD TOWN

25 February 2016

All the details you need, ahead of Saturday's visit of Mansfield Town to Rodney Parade.

Looking at the visitors

Mansfield Town find themselves in a strong position in Sky Bet League 2 as they are currently sixth in the table, two points inside the playoff places. However having played more games than anyone else in the division to date, they could easily slip down to mid-table once the games in hand have been played. Keen to avoid this happening the Stags will be particularly looking at their next two games against the Exiles and Yeovil, as places to pick up all three points. Boss Adam Murray will be hoping that Matt Green is on form with the striker having netted 11 goals so far this season. Mansfield will be hoping to continue their good run of form having taken 13 points from the last 18.

Last meeting

Three second half goals for the home side gave Mansfield a 3-0 victory at Field Mill in early October with Craig Westcarr opening the scoring five minutes after the break and Adi Yussuf wrapped it up in added time when he tucked away the third. The defeat left Newport at the bottom of the table whilst Mansfield were in 4th, only a single point from the top.

Last time out

A late header from Scott Boden gave Newport a valuable away point in their continual battle to keep distance between themselves and the bottom two. After Exeter had taken the lead five minutes into the second half, Scott Boden’s effort five minutes from time means that the gap between Newport and the bottom two is six points, although the Exiles do have a game in hand on the two sides in the drop zone, meaning that gap could increase to nine.

The Man in charge

Gavin Ward from Surrey is the man in the middle for this weekend’s game with his assistants Adam Bromley and Ravel Cheosiaua. The fourth official is John Farries. Ward sent off Ismail Yakubu in Newport’s 2-0 defeat away at Exeter City last season in the only game of the Exiles that he has taken charge of since being on the list in 2006.

Information

Building work has started along the entire length of Rodney road. The work is scheduled to take eight weeks to complete. During this time there will be three traffic light controlled areas which will cause further traffic delays for supporters and local residents, so we urge fans to park in the city centre and use the footbridge to get to Rodney Parade to avoid these delays.
