MATCH PREVIEW: CAMBRIDGE UNITED

22 September 2016

All the facts and stats you need, ahead of this Saturday's game clash against Cambridge United.

Looking at the visitors

Cambridge United have certainly not had the start they were looking for this season and after eight league games they find themselves at the bottom of the table without a win and a three points behind the Exiles going into this fixture. With only five league goals so far this season they have not been as prominent in the final third as they would have liked, although Piero Mingola has three goals to his name so far this season including one against Sheffield Wednesday in the first round of the league cup. Defensively they have only kept a clean sheet twice in eleven games in all competitions and in the league, have conceded over 1.5 goals per game on average.

Last Meeting

Cambridge made it five games unbeaten against Newport County when they won by a goal to nil in April. Despite the loss the result left County one win away from securing their safety in the football league for another year, something that was secured a few games later.

Last Time Out

Newport dropped to 22nd in the League 2 table after a 2-0 away defeat to Doncaster Rovers. Goals from James Coppinger and Andy Williams gave Rovers the victory and they moved up to second place with the win. Newport are now only outside the relegation places on goal difference but still have a game in hand.

The Man in Charge

Nicholas Kinseley is in charge for this fixture with his assistants Matt Eva and Robert Dabbs, the fourth official is Kevin Morris. Last season he was in charge of three Newport fixtures, the home draw with Stevenage, the away win at Bristol Rovers and the home defeat to Notts County. In 2012 he refereed his first Newport match, County’s away defeat to Kidderminster in the Blue Square Premier division. In his career he has taken charge of 94 games handing out 327 yellow cards at an average of 3.47 per game, he has also dismissed players on 37 occasions.
