New York-born midfielder Shane McLoughlin joined Newport in July 2023, arriving at Rodney Parade with over 100 Football League appearances under his belt.
McLoughlin moved to Ireland when he was five, and he played football for his local team, St. Brendan’s Park as a youngster. His talent was spotted by Ipswich Town, with the Tractor Boys signing him to a development deal in 2013.
He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2016 and would make his debut for the club a year later in an EFL Cup game against Premier League side Crystal Palace. McLoughlin would have two loan spells at National League side Bromley during his time at Portman Road.
In 2019, McLoughlin signed for AFC Wimbledon, who were competing in League One at the time. He would spend two years at the club, starting 71 times and scoring three. McLoughlin then made the move up North to League One Morecambe in their debut season in the league. He played 43 times for the club before joining Salford for a brief period.
McLoughlin signed for Newport in July 2023, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal at Rodney Parade. He made his debut for us away at Accrington Stanley on the opening day of the 22/23 season.
