COUNTY TO SIGN DAY

Newport County AFC can today confirm that an agreement has been reached to sign Joe Day on a permanent basis from Peterborough United FC, for a club record undisclosed fee.

Day originally signed for County back in August of this year on a 93 day emergency loan making his debut in County's first win of the season away to Portsmouth, Day then went on to make 16 appearances for the Club during the 93 day loan, before returning back to his parent club.

Day will continue to wear the number 30 shirt for the 2014/15 season and joins County on the opening day of the January transfer window, Saturday 3rd January, in time for the home game against Carlisle. Joe joins on a two and a half year contract that will see him through until the end of the 2016/17 season.

County Manager Justin Edinburgh commented on the signing "we are delighted to have secured the signature of Joe for the football club, Joe has already showed us that he has great ability and produced a number of good performances during his time at the club earlier in the season.

"I would like to thank Howard Greenhaf for his instrumental work in getting this deal agreed and signed, I would also like to thank the board for backing me and allowing me to sign a player of Joe's quality permanently. Joe will add to what is already a strong position and this has been highlighted with the fantastic display of Jamie Stephens over the last couple of games."

New man Joe Day also commented "I am delighted to be signing permanently with Newport County, having been here earlier this season on loan I wanted to come back and continue the good progress the team has made. I'm pleased to be working with a great Manager, back room staff and players again, I'm looking forward to getting back into it here. I would like thank the board for putting in the money to allow me to sign from Peterborough and I look forward to the next two and a half years at Newport County."
