25th Anniversary Dinner
Last night (June 18) saw the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the formation of Newport AFC, now Newport County AFC, many faces old and new gathered at the Lysaght Institute 25 years to the day, in the exact same building that was used on the historic night in June 1989. The weather that night was glorious sunshine, so quite fitting that the exact same conditions were repeated on Wednesday evening.Club President, David Hando asked all those present at the original meeting in 1989 to stand, prompting the majority of the room to rise to their feet. Tributes were also paid to those who unfortunately could not be with us to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Guest for the evening BBC's Rob Phillips started proceedings, before handing over to John Hartson. The ex Wales international and Celtic striker, gave us an insight into his career and recent battle with cancer. Following a standing ovation from all present, the night concluded with an auction and raffle before live music from the local band Jarzino.
A fantastic night was had by all and we thank all those present for making it such a memorable evening.
