WARREN FEENEY CONFIRMED AS FIRST TEAM MANAGER

15 January 2016

Warren Feeney appointed as first-team Manager…

Newport County AFC can today announce that Warren Feeney has been appointed first-team Manager.

Warren, who was assistant to John Sheridan, will now take control of first-team duties, starting with Saturday’s visit to York City.

The former Northern Ireland international had previous experience of management prior to joining the Exiles back in October, managing Linfield F.C in the NIFL Premiership, including experiencing European football.

Speaking after being unveiled as first-team Manager, Warren Feeney said, “It’s a great honour for me to be appointed as Manager of Newport County AFC. I have a house in the area and my plan has always been to settle here with my family"

“I have enjoyed my time at the Club and I am looking forward to the challenges of being a Football League manager.”

“I believe we have a committed group of players here, that are more than capable of staying clear of the relegation places this season.”

“We have showed that we have the quality in this squad to match the best teams in this division and now the focus must be on hitting a consistent level of performance.”

“We have some crucial games coming up, so all of the efforts will be focused on preparation for those games and picking up the points we need to help us move further away from the bottom two.”

“I would like to thank John Sheridan for his help during our time together. He is a great Manager and I have learnt a lot from working with him.”

Director Gavin Foxall added, “We are delighted that Warren has agreed to take over as Manager.”

“After the events of the last couple of days we wanted to act quickly in appointing a new Manager."

“The Board believe that Warren has showed a great professional approach in the way that he has coached the squad since arriving in October and we are certain that he will carry on with the same approach as Manager.”

“We have a series of crucial games in the coming weeks, so having stability at the Club was key and I think that Warren’s appointment will help that.”

Warren will be bringing in Andy Todd as his new assistant manager. The former Blackburn Rovers player was assistant to Warren at Linfield F.C.

“He is somebody I know very well,” said Feeney.

“We have worked together at Linfield and I look forward to being reunited with Andy at Newport. His knowledge and experience of the game will be a great help to me and the squad.”

The Board of Directors wish to place on record their thanks to Linfield F.C for their permission to speak to Andy Todd.

Michael Flynn will remain part of the backroom staff, continuing in his role as first-team coach.
