Daniel Butler signs for County…

28 June 2016

Newport County AFC can announce the signing of 21 year old left back Daniel Butler on a 2 year deal with the club.

Daniel, who was born in Newport, Isle of Wight has joined the Exiles after turning down a new contract with National League side Torquay United.

After starting his career at Portsmouth FC Academy, Dan went on to make 48 appearances for Portsmouth’s First Team,  whilst enjoying loan spells at both Havant & Waterlooville and Aldershot Town during his time with the club.

In July 2015 Dan signed for the Gulls and went on to make 52 appearances for the club scoring three goals.

Speaking of his move Dan commented “I’m happy to have signed and I’m looking forward to the future and the start of pre-season. I’m fed up of sitting at home now, so I’m looking forward to meeting the lads, there’s a lot of new signings here and we’re all in the same position and hopefully we can gel quickly”.

He continued “I’ve had a taste of League football with Portsmouth and last season I had to drop down to the Conference, but I’ve benefited from that and played a lot of games and I’m ready to get back into League 2 and hopefully play well for Newport”.

So what can fans expect from our latest signing, Dan gave us a brief overview of his expectations for the season ahead “I’ve got a lot of energy and as a left back my first priority is a clean sheet, but I also like to create a lot of chances and had 14 assists from left back last year and I want to add to that by bombing forward and linking up down the left to create a lot of chances for the strikers”.

Manager Warren Feeney was pleased to sign his eleventh signing of the summer commenting “I’m delighted to sign Daniel, he’s a very good prospect but not only that he’s had games for undoubtedly the biggest club in the league.”

On obtaining his target Warren said “there were a few clubs interested in him and we had to go and show our honesty and what we wanted in making the first move and to be fair, he’s wanted to come and play. Daniel is athletic, he can defend and he’ll be a good addition for the club.”

Daniel will link up with his new team mates as the team heads back to pre-season training on Thursday 30th June 2016.
