CLUB TO HOLD A MINUTE'S SILENCE ON SATURDAY IN MEMORY OF VICTIMS OF THE ABERFAN DISASTER

18 October 2016

The Club will hold a minute’s silence to mark 50 years since the Aberfan disaster at our home game versus Plymouth Argyle.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Aberfan disaster, where 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives in a catastrophic collapse of a waste tip from Merthyr Vale colliery which slid down the mountain onto the village below.

As a mark of respect, Rodney Parade will fall silent for a minute ahead of Saturday’s game.

Director Gavin Foxall, commented, “It is important that we show our respect by marking the anniversary of such a tragic event in Welsh history. ”

“We hope that all fans will observe the minute’s silence at Saturday’s game and join us in showing our respects to the families that lost loved ones during the disaster.”
