Last Meeting

A late Alex Rodman goal wasn’t enough to rescue a point for Newport County as they fell by two goals to one away at Stevenage, who secured their League 2 safety with the win. The defeat left County 11 points clear of the bottom two with four games remaining.

Last Time Out

An 88th minute penalty meant that Newport County lost their third game in a row in a match that would prove to be the last for manager Warren Feeney. Although the stats of the game were relatively even the decision to award the spot kick three minutes from time proved to be the nail in the coffin for the Exiles, who now sit at the bottom of the League 2 table.

The Man in Charge

Kevin Johnson has the whistle for this match with his assistants Marvyn Amphlett and Brian Durie, the fourth official is Andrew Quin. This is Johnson’s ninth season on the list and last season he took charge of two Newport games, the epic League Trophy tie with Swindon Town which County lost in a penalty shoot-out, and the 2-2 home draw with A.F.C Wimbledon. In the 2014/15 season he was at Rodney Parade again for the 1-1 draw with Burton Albion and he was in the middle for three games in the 2012/13 season including the 4-2 away win at Telford where County faced nine men for the last fifteen minutes of the match. He also travelled to South Wales twice more that season for the home draw with Tamworth and the home win against Alfreton. In the previous season it was County who were playing with nine men after he sent off Gary Warren and Ismail Yakubu at Rodney Parade in the 3-1 defeat to Kidderminster. In his career he has taken charge of 138 games and handed out 407 yellow cards at an average of 3.01 per game, he has also sent players off on 29 occasions.
