Jamille Matt, Newport County AFC & Royds Withy King are raising awareness of cardiac conditions in sports

Heart conditions can affect any of us, but in recent years we have seen many professional footballers suffer from sudden heart attacks, the most notable being Fabrice Muamba in March 2012. Jamille shares why he thinks regular testing and early diagnosis can help minimise such devastating events in football, and all other sports.

To grow awareness even further around this important topic, medical negligence solicitors from Royds Withy King have teamed up with their fundraising partners, The British Heart Foundation to host a 5-a-side charity football tournament in their local city of Oxford on Tuesday 13th November 2018.  Various local businesses will be competing with all proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation.

Speaking on behalf of the campaign, solicitor Bhavesh Patel from Royds Withy King, said:

“Recent research suggests that 1 in 266 footballers suffer from an undiagnosed heart condition, and therefore it is imperative that all athletes are continuously assessed to identify, at an early stage, any underlying cardiac problem. We are really looking forward to our charity football tournament which will help raise awareness of this very important message.”

Royds Withy King are proud to be raising money for the BHF’s life saving research, which will help make a difference to the lives of those fighting a daily battle with heart conditions.

Lowri Gerrard, BHF Fundraising Manager for Oxfordshire said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Royds Withy King and Jamille Matt for their support.  All money raised from the tournament helps to fund ground-breaking discoveries and identify new treatments that could help save more people from the devastating effects of heart disease.”
