PREVIEW: Newport County vs Port Vale

10 December 2021

Newport go into Saturday's hosting of Port Vale on the back of a three-match unbeaten run hoping to make it back-to-back wins in League Two.

Tuesday night's epic at home to Sutton saw the Exiles rise to 8th in the League Two table but level on points with Leyton Orient in the play-off positions.

Port Vale meanwhile sit in 3rd thanks to a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers in midweek as Darrell Clarke's men have outlined their intentions to be a League One club next season.

Vale boss Darrell Clarke was vague on the extent of his squad's injury list, however David Worrall and Devante Rodney both came off early in the second half on Tuesday with injury concerns.

County have no fresh injury concerns going into the weekend but are able to welcome League Two top scorer Dom Telford back into the fold after the completion of his isolation period following a COVID diagnosis.

Jamie Proctor is Vale's top scorer so far with six goals in 13 games but he was not named in the Vale squad on Tuesday night.

The last game between the two sides at Rodney Parade ended in a 1-0 win for County courtesy of Kevin Ellison's last-gasp winner in the sixth minute of injury time.
