MATCH PREVIEW: The season begins with Wycombe
Newport County AFC kick off their Sky Bet League Two season, playing host to relegation survivors, Wycombe Wanderers at Rodney Parade.
This is the Exiles second consecutive season in the fourth tier of the English Football League, after finishing 14th in the 2013-14 season.
County have maintained an unbeaten pre-season throughout the summer. Most recently Newport County AFC brushed aside West Ham United Development, 3-0. Goals from Klukowski, Zebroski and Rene Howe capped off an impressive display.
Justin Edinburgh will have a near fully fit squad to choose from with only Max Porter, Danny Crow and Jamie Stephens unavailable for selection. Both Simon Thomas and Kyle Patten will be available for selection after signing non-contract terms with County earlier this week.
Last season saw County do the double over the Chairboys. A Michael Flynn strike at Adams Park was enough to reap the rewards on Boxing Day, while the return leg was fully deserved. Goals from Christian Jolley and Chris Zebroski earning the 2-0 victory at Rodney Parade.
Wycombe Wanderers have seen a summer of change and improvement. Manager Gareth Ainsworth adding no less than eight signings, aimed towards a more streamlined and strengthened squad.
Memories of last season’s final day madness, will be fresh in the Chairboys minds, having survived the dreaded drop to non-league football on the final day. Wycombe Wanderers shall be aiming to improve with a positive result at Rodney Parade.
Here’s a look at how how County and Wycombe faired last season.
