Ahead of Saturday's match against Morecambe, manager Terry Butcher has this message for the fans...
Apparently, the Shrimpers have a strong record against us in recent years but, with so many changes on and off the pitch, what happened before should have no significance for our new team and new staff.
Whilst last Saturday’s result was harsh, I thought the performance wasn’t anywhere near as bad as some pessimists were saying this week; having reviewed the DVD there was nothing between the two sides, except for the fact that we threw in three very soft goals.
Nearly everyone in the squad has been guilty of errors in this campaign but, judging by the mood in the camp these past seven days, there is a fierce determination to put things right as soon as possible.
Disappointing defeats against Plymouth and York were sandwiched, however, by an excellent display in the JPT match with Swindon and that’s the level of performance that we will need in League Two games from now on. This squad is still capable of producing some excellent football and turning around our season, so any air of negativity is not going to help anyone.
I spoke to the lads on Monday and said that I had a real belief we will start picking up points very soon – as long as everyone sticks together, then our goals for this year would be met. I did indicate previously that there would probably be some pain before gain, but there is a long way to go in this marathon of a season!
And possibly the best reason for getting three points is to give you, our tremendous supporters, something to really cheer about, as your backing so far, especially at Rodney Parade, has been brilliant.
Keep up the good work and enjoy the game tomorrow!
