Newport County AFC take on Walsall in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday 4th November at 5.15pm.
Whilst this fixture will be played 90 years and one month (almost to the day) after the two teams first met (a match that ended in a 3-0 away victory for County), Walsall and Newport County haven’t played each other since 1987.
They competed regularly throughout 1980s whilst both teams played in Division 3 (now League One) and were both promoted to that division in the same Season. In fact, it was a 4-2 victory away at Walsall on the final day of the Season which secured County’s promotion.
To celebrate the incredible achievements of the 1979/80 Promotion winning side, we have invited promotion heroes Grant Davies, Neil Bailey, Gary Plumley and John Relish to join us as guests at the Emirates FA Cup match vs Walsall.
