NCAFC's We Wear The Same Shirt team took on Swindon's Community mental health team on the weekend at the County Ground, check out some pictures from the half time match above.
It was fantastic to see County's 'We Wear the Same Shirt' team take on Swindon's Mental Health group at the weekend, both prior to the match and in front of thousands of supporters at half time of County's Sky Bet League Two match against Swindon.
County in the Community’s main focus is “Providing Opportunities-Enhancing Lives”. With the trip to Swindon we subsidise the travel (fundraising & sponsorship) and Swindon Town do likewise with the match tickets. This enables people who may not have a lot of spare money, the chance to participate.
County in the Community’s Head of Community Norman Parselle said: "We had 60 people travel altogether with the group 25 players and 35 volunteers/supporters/guardians & carers. Most of the players now feel part of Newport County AFC and 90% of them before joining WWTSS had none, or very little association with the club.
Most people in Football could only dream of playing in front of 7,000 fans and being cheered off at half-time but our players have been 3 years on the trot."
Emily Edwards Lead coach said "We love playing against Swindon as they are like us play with a smile and enjoy it" Emily also said: "We always get treated well and have made good friendships with the Swindon’s guys over the last 3 years."
The team that meet every Thursday from 1pm until 2pm at PlayFootball in Bettws, Newport. Click here to find out more about the group.
We hope everyone in NCAFC's WWTSS team enjoyed both matches at Swindon.
