Newport County AFC is delighted to confirm that Matty Dolan has signed a new two-year deal with the club.
The midfielder-turned-defender has put pen-to-paper on a contract that will see him remain with the Exiles until the summer of 2023.
Dolan, who is now in his fourth season at Rodney Parade after making the switch from Yeovil Town in 2017, has chalked up 166 appearances in all competitions for County.
He has played a key part in the Exiles’ Emirates FA Cup exploits during his time in south Wales, helping Michael Flynn’s side reach the third round of the competition in each of the last four campaigns.
The 28-year-old played a role in County’s historic third-round win over Leeds United in the 2017-18 season before featuring against Tottenham Hotspur as the Exiles forced a replay after holding the Premier League outfit to a 1-1 draw.
Dolan then helped Flynn’s side seal a shock win over former Premier League champions Leicester City in the following campaign to set up a fourth-round tie against his former club Middlesbrough. He scored a last-gasp leveller against the Sky Bet Championship side to earn County a replay, where he helped his side pull off another cup upset at Rodney Parade.
The Exiles went on to reach the 2019 play-off final against Tranmere Rovers later in the season after Dolan tucked home the winning penalty in the semi-final second leg against Mansfield Town to seal a place at Wembley.
A centre-midfielder for the majority of his career, Dolan has made a seamless transition to centre-back this term and contributed with six goals and three assists in 42 appearances.
After signing the new deal, Dolan said: "I'm over the moon because I've played a lot of games for the club and we've gone from strength to strength since I've been here. I'd like to think I've performed well enough to earn a new contract this year, so I'm pleased to get it all sorted.
"The loyalty that the club has shown towards me has been a big thing for me and my family. I've felt welcomed since I first came here and I'll be looking to help this club keep progressing over the next two years while I'm here."
Manager Michael Flynn added: "Matty has earned his new contract for his consistent performances and the outstanding attitude that he shows every day.
"He has been a pleasure to manage since joining us four years ago and I'm very pleased that he has committed his future to the football club."
Dolan's 2020-21 home, away and third shirts are sponsored by Seren Fach.
