Newport County AFC claimed their second win of the pre-season campaign over Vanarama National League South side Chippenham Town at Hardenhuish Park.
Trialist 1 opened the scoring early on with a calm and collected finish while Trialist 3 stunned the travelling County fans with an excellent long-range effort in the second half.
The Exiles will travel to Cinderford Town for their penultimate pre-season friendly on July 27.
It was a slow start from both sides but it was County who created the first chance in the 12th minute. Trialist 1 and 2 combined beautifully to whip a cross into Aaron Lewis whose header was cleared by the Bluebirds' defence.
County continued to apply the pressure as Robbie Willmott stung the hands of the Chippenham shot-stopper with a long-range effort only minutes later.
The Exiles dominated for the majority of the first-half, as the back five kept the hosts’ frontline quiet with minimal chances breaching the County defence.
At the other end of the pitch, Trialist 1 broke the deadlock from close range in the 19th minute thanks to a low-driled Lewis cross.
Following a corner, County had a golden chance to double their lead before the half-hour mark when Priestley Farquharson found himself unmarked in the box. However, the defender’s effort sailed past the post.
Lewis Collins soon fancied his chances from distance when he curled an effort with his weaker foot on the stroke of half-time. Unfortunately, his ambitious strike was off-target.
After the break, the hosts began to see much more of the ball and it wasn’t too long before the Bluebirds converted their first chance of the evening. Dan Griffiths brought the hosts level as his penalty sailed beyond 16-year-old Evan Ovendale in the County net.
However, only five minutes later, the Exiles were soon back on top and in the lead after a wonderfully curled effort from the edge of the box from Trialist 3.
The hosts were still on the hunt for an equaliser towards the final few minutes but Ovendale produced a fantastic save with his feet from close range to deny the Bluebirds any chance of getting back into the game. The County shot-stopper’s save brought the game to a close as the Exiles recorded their second pre-season win of the campaign.
