Newport County AFC are delighted to announce the arrival of striker Omar Bogle, who joins the club on a permanent transfer from Hartlepool United for an undisclosed fee.
Omar becomes our eighth summer signing ahead of the 2022-23 season.
The 28-year-old striker joins us with a wealth of experience under his belt that has seen him win promotion from both the National League with Grimsby Town and the Championship with Cardiff City, where we worked with County gaffer James Rowberry.
After 62 goals in just over 100 games in the National League North for Solihull Moors between 2012 and 2015, Omar moved to Grimsby where he netted 32 goals in 68 league games for the Mariners, helping them to Football League promotion via the play-offs in 2016.
That, as well as a successful season in League Two for Grimsby, earned Omar a move to Wigan in the Championship, before his switch to Cardiff in the season they finished 2nd and earned promotion to the Premier League.
While under contract at Cardiff, Omar would have loans out to Peterborough, Birmingham and Portsmouth across League One and the Championship before a temporary stint at ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie, Holland’s top flight.
Omar has also had spells at Charlton and Doncaster in League One before his move to Hartlepool where he scored 5 goals in 20 games in League Two last season.
On the signing of Omar, James Rowberry said: “I’m really pleased to welcome Omar to Newport County AFC, with myself and Carl [Serrant, assistant manager] having worked with him previously, we know what he can bring to the team.
“It’s another exciting signing for us and I would like to thank Gavin [Foxall, chairman] and Darren [Kelly, Sporting Director] for the work they have put into this.
“I’m sure you’ll give Omar a really warm welcome.”
Welcome to Newport, Omar!
