Midfielder, James Waite will stay at Newport County AFC until the end of the 2023/24 season. Subject to EFL approval.
James Waite’s contract was due to end at the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign, however the club have exercised an option to extend his contract by a further season.
James Waite, from Pontypool has made 40 appearances for the club over the past two seasons netting three goals during that time. His most memorable finish was scoring the winner against now Premier league side Luton Town in round one of the Carabao Cup back in August of 2022.
James’ ability to push up the field and create exciting passages of play are a key part of County’s game. The energy he brings to the pitch is unmatched and often has a work rate to equal it.
Waite said this on committing his future to the Exiles “I’m absolutely delighted to sign a new deal at the club, I’ve loved every minute of my time here so far” He added “I am a local lad and my family enjoy coming to watch and I love to play in front of them. I also like playing in front of the fantastic supporters we get down here. I’m just looking forward to getting going again next season!”
Graham Coughlan also expressed his excitement on the news by saying “I am absolutely delighted he’s chosen to stay with us. James has developed very well and has lots of potential. I feel he epitomizes what we’re about with the energy and work rate he brings to the squad. He is brilliant to work with and I am looking forward to working with him again next season.”
