Newport County can confirm that Aaron Wildig is leaving the club to pursue family and business priorities away from football.
Wildig, who captained the club last season, was offered a new deal with the Exiles after his current contract was due to expire at the end of the month.
But the classy midfielder has opted to put his family first by combining part-time football with a current business opportunity he has been developing over the last few years.
After three years and 90 appearances at the League Two club, the 33-year-old admitted it was a hard decision to make, especially after missing the majority of last season with a serious cruciate knee injury.

“After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to move into a part-time playing model as I have opportunities away from football,’’ confirmed Wildig.
“After the injury I had, it feels like the right time to shift my focus towards things off the pitch that will also benefit my family.
“I want to give a big thank you to the club for the last three years. From the chairman, the managers I've worked under, the players, staff, and the fans, I've genuinely enjoyed my time at Newport.
“It hasn't always been smooth on the pitch, but being named captain last season was a huge honour and a proud moment for me. I'm just gutted it had to end the way it did with my injury back in November.
“The support I've received throughout my time has been brilliant and I’m really grateful for that. I wish the club and the fans nothing but success in the future.’’
And Wildig, who joined the club in June 2022 from Morecambe, believes he is leaving the club in safe hands with a new management team now in place.
“Having met David (Hughes) over the last few weeks, I’m confident the club has made the right appointment, and he will push things forward,’’ he added.
Newport County would like to thank Aaron for his service, commitment and dedication over the last three years and wish him well with his new opportunities on and off the pitch. Diolch.
