Newport County interim manager Chris Todd felt his side produced some encouraging spells but was disappointed with the goals they conceded.
“We were good in spells, but they’re terrible goals to concede, all four of them really, mistakes.
“I just said to the players that if you’re going to concede and you’re going to lose games to teams, obviously in higher divisions, we have to lose by them cutting you open.
“But we learn more in defeat, especially in pre-season, than you do when you win.”
However, there were many positives to take from yesterday's game according to the interim manager despite the loss.
“I thought we held our own, especially in the first half. It was very clear to see that.
“We had good opportunities. Should be scoring at least one of those opportunities that we had.
We had a great opportunity when it flew across the box and no one’s on the end of it. We worked on that yesterday.
“So, it’s little details that they’ve got to get right to make.”
Heading into the game against Yeovil Town on Saturday Todd will be looking to keep a clean sheet and get back to winning ways.
“Just don’t concede the goals we did. If it were that easy, I’d be in the Premier League.
“The boys, they understand it. They know that that’s not good enough, and that’s the facts.
Youngster Harri Pugh played through most of the match and so far, has impressed Todd who has nothing but praise for the player.
“The kid’s done brilliant. Like, he’s a good player. Harri is somebody I was really sort of impressed with last season.
“The timing wasn’t right, obviously where we were when I came in so he didn’t have the opportunity and I can understand why Christian didn’t pick him.
“But he’s a player that’s been chomping at the bit for a while now and he’s showed it in his performance.”
