Newport County can confirm that Michael Spellman has decided to leave Rodney Parade after turning down a new contract offer, opting to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
The winger played an influential role during the 2025-26 campaign, particularly during the second half of the season as Newport County battled to secure its Sky Bet League Two status. His performances and important goals at a crucial stage of the campaign helped the Exiles pick up valuable points when they were needed most.
Spellman's impact was recognised by supporters at the club's end-of-season awards, where he was voted the 2025-26 Supporters' Player of the Season. The award reflected both his contribution on the pitch and the connection he built with the Amber Army throughout his time at Rodney Parade.
Following discussions over a new contract, Spellman has now chosen to move on, bringing his spell at Newport County to a close.
Newport County continues preparations for the 2026-27 campaign as recruitment work progresses ahead of the new season.
Everyone at Newport County would like to thank Michael for his commitment and contribution during his time at the club and wish him every success for the future.
