County boast impressive performance stats following extra-time thriller in the FA Cup

Ben Lloyd

Newport County showcased remarkable physical output in their FA Cup first round clash, covering impressive distances over more than 120 minutes of football. Ben Lloyd led the way with 15.92km covered, including 1,463m at speeds above 19.8km/h, setting a new top speed for himself this season.

Lloyd was far from the only player making a significant contribution, with six other County players running over 13km during the match, underlining the squad’s collective commitment to supporting both in attack and defence.

Head of Performance Scott Wickens praised the squad’s effort, explaining that the numbers reflect the high standards set within the club. “The team’s performance demonstrates exactly what we expect at Newport,” said Wickens. “The players covered huge distances, maintained high-intensity running, and showed incredible endurance. Ben’s numbers are impressive, but this is what we have been working on as staff to ensure players are in the best condition to compete right until the very end.”

The Exiles fought hard to progress to the second round of the FA Cup, the draw for which will take place on Monday evening. Attention now turns to Saturday, as league leaders Walsall make the trip to Rodney Parade.
