The night could not have ended any better for battling County - the moral-boosting victory over Crewe smashing a nine-month home league hoodoo which lifted the Exiles off the bottom of League Two where they had been nailed since mid-October.
Goals in either half from Courtney Baker-Richardson and on-loan Leicester City midfield star Sammy Braybrooke in potentially his final Newport appearance before returning to the King Power Stadium, settled the clash - handing Exiles chief Christian Fuchs his first ever win in senior management.
The Austrian beamed later, "What a way to sign off 2025! Now we can look forward to 2026, I feel so positive and proud about this group of players. In our last six games we have now two draws and a win, something to build on.
"We have kept two clean sheets in our last two home matches. As a former defender myself, that, of course delights me.
"Everybody did their job properly tonight. We were a threat from set pieces and open play, excellent on the break.
"We controlled the game with and without the ball. Crewe got behind us a couple of times, but we maintained our discipline in defence,"
Newport visit table-topping Bromley within three days, but Fuchs is releshing the challenge that lays ahead, saying, "We'll enjoy tonight before we sit down and plan for Bromley in the next day or so. It's all about confidence, we are going to give any opponent a good game on the is type of show, regardless of them being top of the table."
Asked if midfielder Braybrooke would be in the County party travelling to Kent, Fuchs was staying tight-lipped, but did say, "Sammy is a very good player. I will always be optimistic about him until the moment I can't be, of course.
"Regardless, though, we have some very decent players at Newport who can step up. Not everything hinges on one individual, that should never be the case."
Fuchs heaped praise on quick silver Cameroon winger Bobby Kamwa, who sparkled and crackled throughout this 2-0 win over the Railwaymen - giving his marker Jay Mingi a torrid time.
"Bobby was tremendous. He is a very exciting attacking player, but I want to also say how hard he worked tracking back tonight," reflected Fuchs, adding, "it is never easy for such an attack-minded performer to track back, because he is curbing his natural instinct. Yet he did what was required defensively in this game, and that delighted me."
