Newport County 2-0 Tranmere Rovers | 13th October 1979
We begin with the golden season of 1979-80, where Len Ashurst guided Newport to promotion from the Fourth Division.
County came into this match with one win in their previous four, but did beat Aldershot Town four days earlier.
Goals from club legends John Aldridge - a future Tranmere player and manager - and Steve Lowndes fired County to victory in front of a Somerton Park gate of 4,052. The crowd would never dip below this figure for the rest of the campaign.
Tranmere eventually finished 15th in the table, with the two not meeting for another seven years afterwards.
Newport County 0-1 Tranmere Rovers | 25th May 2019
The climax to the 2018-19 League Two season came as the two sides met at Wembley for a massive play-off Final.
Newport had seen off Mansfield after a penalty shootout in their first ever EFL play-off game, whilst Tranmere saw off Forest Green Rovers and were back in the capital for the second year running after defeating Boreham Wood in the National League play-off the previous May.
A tense game was eventually decided in extra-time, after Mark O'Brien was sent-off minutes from the final whistle. Connor Jennings struck in the 119th-minute to break Newport hearts and send Tranmere to a second successive promotion.
Tranmere would ultimately only spend one season in the third tier before relegation following the suspension of the league in March 2020.

The first meeting between the two after the play-off Final came at a desolate Rodney Parade following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newport had started the season in fine form, winning three of their first five games - including a victory away to Bolton Wanderers.
Conversely, Tranmere had struggled to adjust on their return to the fourth division, only beating Scunthorpe United in their opening set of fixtures.
Michael Flynn celebrated his 40th birthday as Newport saw off their visitors thanks to a solitary goal from Saikou Janneh, with Paul Lewis sent off for the Merseysiders.
Newport County 4-2 Tranmere Rovers | 26th February 2022
Newport had already won 1-0 at Prenton Park the previous August, and were right in the hunt for promotion along with their opponents.
This one pitted 3rd against 8th, with County looking to climb into the play-off places under the guidance of James Rowberry.
A frenetic game saw a goalless first-half, before things exploded into life when Aaron Lewis and Dom Telford scored for the home side.
It looked like Tranmere would snatch a draw when they equalised in the 84th-minute, but late goals from Telford and Finn Azaz snatched it back for The Exiles.
Tranmere Rovers 1-3 Newport County | 18th March 2023
The last time Newport wrestled a win against Tranmere was almost three years ago.
Graham Coughlan's County had undergone a five-game winless streak, but only two spaces separated the two clubs before kick-off.
Aaron Wildig, Charlie McNeill and Calum Kavanagh all struck for Newport, with Tranmere scoring a consolation in injury time.
The result practically erased County's relegation fears, sending them 12 points above the drop zone, and the two teams would only be divided by one point in the final standings.
