· More than 500,000 people have started learning CPR with Sky Bet and BHF – creating a massive squad of lifesavers across the UK, supported by the EFL
· Sky Bet and The BHF are calling on even more fans to join the ‘Every Minute Matters’ squad and take 15 minutes to learn CPR
· Football fans who learn CPR using the BHF’s free RevivR tool by Tuesday 31st March could win a money-can’t-buy experience with their EFL team
Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) are calling on football fans to join an army of lifesavers as part of the Sky Bet and BHF’s transformative Every Minute Matters campaign, which has successfully inspired more than 500,000 people to start learning CPR in less than two years.
As the Every Minute Matters campaign hits the landmark milestone of engaging half a million people to learn CPR, Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation are encouraging fans to join the ‘Every Minute Matters squad’ by learning CPR in just 15 minutes with the BHF’s free RevivR tool. One heroic CPR learner will win a chance to win a money-can’t-buy experience with their team.
There are more than 40,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year, and tragically, fewer than one in 10 survive. Learning CPR can more than double someone’s chance of survival.
Launched at Wembley in May 2024, Every Minute Matters has already inspired enough people to fill the National Stadium multiple times. The campaign set out to engage 270,000 people how to perform CPR using the BHF’s free RevivR tool in its first season and smashed that target - eventually inspiring over 300,000 fans to start learning CPR by May 2025. In less than two years, the campaign has now reached over 500,000 people learning CPR.
Football fans can win a money can’t buy experience as well as 4 tickets to a Sky Bet EFL home game, by joining the ‘Every Minute Matters CPR squad’. To take up their place in the squad, they need to complete the BHF’s free CPR training tool RevivR by Tuesday 31st March and share the reason behind why they are taking on CPR training for the first time, or refreshing their knowledge, via Every Minute Matters CPR Squad Giveaway – Fill in form
The winner will be picked by Every Minute Matters campaign ambassador and cardiac arrest survivor Tom Lockyer, who collapsed twice on pitch during high-profile games in 2023, alongside a panel from Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation.
Every Minute Matters campaign ambassador Tom Lockyer said: “As someone who knows first-hand the lifesaving impact of CPR, I am so grateful to each and every fan that has stepped up and learnt CPR as part of this game-changing campaign over the past two seasons. A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, meaning it’s vitally important that everyone feels that they have the confidence and skills to perform when every minute really matters.
“We have hit our goal of half a million – but now is the time to get even more people to learn CPR. And there’s no better incentive than the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a money can’t buy experience for your team! With so many of us that have been impacted by cardiac arrest both on and off pitch, I’m looking forward to hearing fans’ stories about what has motivated them to learn this lifesaving skill.”
A game-changing campaign
In February, dozens of famous faces including Frank Lampard, Micah Richards, Graeme Souness, Glenn Hoddle, Dion Dublin, Troy Deeney, Elis James, Sir Tony Robinson threw their weight behind the campaign for Heart Month and joined cardiac arrest survivor and Bristol Rovers player Tom Lockyer, asking fans to SHOW YOUR HEART and learn CPR.
Fans also witnessed a month of action in February across the Sky Bet EFL, with all 72 clubs united behind the Every Minute Matters campaign. Across the weekend of 5-9 February, football paused to make a point, with all 36 weekend games in the
Sky Bet EFL Championship, League One and League Two re-scheduled by one minute in a stark reminder that when it comes to cardiac arrests, every minute really does matter. Each minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10 per cent.
Across February Sky Bet also donated £1,000 to the BHF for every goal scored across the EFL in February – with a huge £514,000 raised for the charity, with 164 goals scored in the Championship, 198 in League One and 152 in League Two.
Lizzie Moscardini, RevivR programme manager, at the British Heart Foundation said: “Hitting this half a million milestone is an extraordinary achievement. Together we’ve inspired over 500,000 people to engage with CPR. It shows what’s possible when people up and down the country come together to help save lives.
Learning CPR can mean the difference between life and death, and our free RevivR tool can give people the confidence to act in an emergency in just 15 minutes”.
