Ahead of Newport County's clash with Crystal Palace U21, we are delighted to welcome former Exile Mike Fowler to the East Stand Lounge, a player who has proudly represented both clubs during his footballing career.
Mike's journey in the game began at a young age, leaving Barry at just 15 to join Crystal Palace, where he progressed through the club's youth system. During his time in South London, he captained a youth side that featured our current manager, Hayden Mullins, giving the pair an early connection long before their paths crossed again in football.
His time at Palace saw him experience some memorable occasions, including making his first-team debut in front of a crowd of 55,000 during a trip to China. Following his spell with the Eagles, Mike was brought back to South Wales by Tim Harris, joining Newport County at the club's former home, Spytty Park.
His career in football has provided plenty of stories along the way, and supporters can look forward to hearing about some of his most memorable experiences. From memorable cup nights and the unusual situation of having to paint a penalty spot midway through a shootout, to the occasion he found himself playing in goal against Newport County, there will be plenty of fascinating moments to look back on.
With his connections to both clubs, Mike will offer a unique insight into his time at Crystal Palace and Newport County, reflecting on his experiences, the people he shared the dressing room with and the memories he has carried throughout his career.
As part of the evening, a raffle will also take place in the East Stand Lounge, with all proceeds going directly to the Mike Fowler GoFundMe page to support him on his brain tumour journey.
We encourage supporters attending Tuesday evening's fixture to get involved, enjoy the opportunity to hear from a former Exile and help support Mike and his family.
