Hayden Mullins speaks on Newport County’s 0-0 draw against Accrington Stanley, discussing his thoughts on the match
“I don't think I can remember us having anything. We really needed to have a big, big chance.
"I think the one at the end with Matty Jacob, he strikes, it comes off the goalkeeper, another day, a little bit more luck, and that drops to us in the box, and we can finish.
“But we looked assured, we looked like a strong team. We just lacked a little bit of creativity at the final moment, and at the time, we needed it.
“But as you say, we started with a point, so it's important not to drop a point, and we take the away point.”
The manager was also pleased with how his defence lined up against Accrington’s attack and was happy with the clean sheet.
“I think the whole backline was diligent in their job today. To come away here. It's always a tough game, and I think they make it tough for you.
“We nullified a lot of their threat, to be fair, and we knew that they were trying to get it in wide areas. For them, I think we kept the strikers quiet. I think the backline did a really good job along with Jordan Wright in goal.
“Caton is a threat, you know; he might have scored on the weekend, and he knew that his record is good and he'd be in good confidence. So, yeah, it was nice to see the backline so comfortable today.”
However, Mullins showed some frustration with the missed opportunities, especially the chances near the end of the game.
“Yeah, I think those ones either go for you or go against you.
“I think Cameron Norman hit one previously and it looked like it was travelling well and then it goes out to a corner.
“It's important that if we do get an effort on goal, we’ve got to try and get something out of it, whether it's a corner or a shot on target or something that comes out to us or near to the box, so we can keep them all alive.”
