Cymru Under-21 boss Matty Jones will be the special guest in hospitality for Newport County’s League Two early kick-off against MK Dons at Rodney Parade on Saturday, August 23 (12.30pm).
The former Leeds, Leicester City and Wales midfielder will join guests in the Club Amber Lounge for an Exiles breakfast special.
Matty is set to be a regular at Rodney Parade with his under-21 side due to kick off their 2027 UEFA Euro campaign in Gwent this Autumn against top seeds Denmark on Monday, September 8 (7.30pm).
They also face Belgium on Newport on Friday, October 10 and Belarus on Friday, March 27.
“Rodney Parade has become a favourite for all involved and we have made some real positive memories there with the last U21s group,’’ explained Matty.
“We have gone from 150 spectators at our U21s fixtures to figures around 3,000. This is all credit to the work behind the scenes and the effort made by the local people of Newport.
“My ambition is to one day fill Rodney Parade for a U21s game through the support of everyone across Wales.’’
While Newport’s Matty Baker may now be too old to represent Cymru at under-21 level, Exiles midfielder Ben Lloyd, currently on loan from Swansea City, is in contention for selection.
“Matt Baker is a real ambassador not just for Newport but for Wales, and he was incredibly supportive in engaging with the community last campaign,” added Matty. “Now we are lucky to have the exciting talent of Ben Lloyd playing his football for the club.
“Ben is also someone who understands and is always passionate about giving back his time to the people who support him, so I’m sure we will be doing some great work with Ben around the area to promote what we do.”
The Club Amber Lounge will be open from 10.30am against MK Dons for fans to start the day in style with a full Exiles breakfast, pastries, tea and coffee before the action begins on the pitch.
As well as a designated host and guest speakers, all hospitality guests will also get the opportunity to meet the entire squad and management after the game for photographs, autographs and to discuss the game of the day. We introduced the squad visits last season – and they were a massive hit with guests.
