Hospitality | Neil Bailey returns for Walsall

Former Newport County midfielder Neil Bailey will be the special guest in hospitality for our Bank Holiday Monday clash against promotion-chasing Walsall on April 21.

Bailey will be returning to Rodney Parade for our early kick-off (12:30pm), live in front of the Sky Sports cameras, where supporters can enjoy a pre-match breakfast  before taking their premier seat for the penultimate home game of the League Two campaign.

Bailey began his football career with Newport County in the early 1980s, during the club’s most successful period. He helped them win promotion, lift the Welsh Cup, and reach the quarter-finals of the 1980–81 European Cup Winners’ Cup. He made 134 appearances and scored seven goals for the club.

In 1983, he joined his hometown team, Wigan Athletic, making 41 league appearances over three seasons. He later moved to Stockport County in 1986, making over 50 appearances and briefly returning to Newport on loan before retiring in 1988. He then joined Stockport’s coaching staff.

Bailey coached at Blackpool from 1992, occasionally playing during injury spells, and later worked with Manchester United’s youth team. From 2002 to 2007, he coached for the Professional Footballers’ Association.

In 2007, he became first team coach at Sunderland under Roy Keane and was promoted to joint assistant manager in 2008. He left the club in 2009 following the arrival of manager Steve Bruce.
