New signing Jordan Wright says he’s excited to get going at Newport County after putting pen to paper ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper arrives at Rodney Parade looking to make his mark and build on the experience he’s gained across the EFL in recent years.
Wright came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest before making the move to Lincoln City, where he made his senior debut. He spent last season with Grimsby Town, picking up valuable first-team minutes – and now he’s eager to take the next step in South Wales.
“I'm delighted to finally be here. It's been great to get everything sorted and now I just want to crack on and get stuck into pre-season.”
Having spoken to manager David Hughes, Wright says it didn’t take long to feel like Newport was the right fit.
“We had a really good conversation about the way he wants the team to play, the standards around the place, and the ambition he has for the season. It’s an exciting time to be here and I’m buzzing to be part of it.”
Wright has already built up a solid base of senior experience despite his age, with time spent learning his trade in non-league and the EFL.

“I started as a scholar at Forest and went out on a few loans, which helped me get used to men’s football early. Then getting my debut at Lincoln was a special moment. Last season at Grimsby was my first full season as a number one – it was a tough year at times, but I learned a lot from it.”
Looking ahead to the new campaign, Wright is focused on contributing as much as he can, both individually and as part of the team.
“Personally, I want to make the shirt mine, work hard every day, and keep as many clean sheets as possible. As a team, we all want to finish as high in the table as we can and push for something special.”
Wright has already had a taste of Rodney Parade after facing the Exiles last season – and he’s looking forward to playing in front of the Amber Army this time around.
“I remember the fans being really loud. They backed the team all game. It’s a great atmosphere and I can’t wait to experience that as a Newport player now.”
