Jordan spoke to the media ahead of Friday night’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Chesterfield at Rodney Parade, discussing County’s strong start to the season, the belief within the dressing room, defensive improvements and the importance of maintaining their unbeaten home record.
Jordan insisted confidence remains high within the squad despite the end of County’s nine-game unbeaten run following Saturday’s defeat to Cheltenham Town.
The setback doesn’t change the belief in the dressing room, with the goalkeeper convinced his side could have taken more from the game.
We’ve started the season well and obviously the game Saturday is a setback, but the belief in that changing room is still the exact same. We could have got something out of the game and probably should have won it.
These things happen and we just now have to bounce back, carry on and get another run going.
The goalkeeper also praised the mentality within the squad under the management of Hayden Mullins, highlighting the togetherness and experience that have helped County establish themselves this season.
This season we’ve come in and got some more experienced lads in there, and there’s a real togetherness. From the start, I think we’ve shown that we can win games.
We’ve got young lads, we’ve got older lads, and I think that’s the real gel of this season. Everyone is helping everyone, and it’s much more comfortable when everyone’s doing a job.
Jordan discussed the improvements in County’s defensive organisation, with the team limiting opposition chances and recording three clean sheets in their opening 12 games.
I think the organisation throughout the team is solid and everyone’s backing each other up. We’re not conceding many shots, and everyone is doing amazing.
The goalkeeper also spoke about his personal ambitions, insisting he remains determined to improve and continue building on his performances throughout the campaign.
I’m always here to get better. I always want to do better. You keep a clean sheet, but then it’s like, can I go two or three on the bounce? I want to do more and pick up as many as I can throughout the season.
Looking ahead to Friday night’s meeting with Chesterfield, Jordan acknowledged the quality of the opposition but believes County can make the most of their home advantage at Rodney Parade.
Chesterfield are a great team, and they’ve been in the play-offs for two seasons in a row. We know exactly what they are, we’ve worked on it and hopefully we can implement our game.
What we show at Rodney is high energy, high press, get after teams and score goals, so let’s do that again tomorrow night.
Jordan also highlighted the importance of the Amber Army’s support as County look to extend their unbeaten home run and return to winning ways.
We’ve got the fans cheering us on and the feeling of being at home. If you can keep an unbeaten run going at home throughout the season, it’s a solid platform, and hopefully we can do that.
