Newport County youngster Rocco Lenney made his first-team competitive debut for the club in Tuesday evening’s Jersey Mike’s Subs Trophy fixture against Crystal Palace U21s at Rodney Parade.
The 17-year-old has been part of the first-team environment throughout the 2026/27 campaign, earning the opportunity to make his competitive bow under manager Hayden Mullins following his continued hard work and development.
His appearance represents another significant milestone for the club’s academy pathway, highlighting the opportunities available to young talents looking to establish themselves in senior football.
Newport County manager Hayden Mullins also praised Lenney’s progress, highlighting his talent and the work he has put in around the first team.
Mullins explained that the youngster has been training regularly with the senior squad, describing him as a good lad with plenty of talent and ability, before adding that Tuesday evening presented the perfect opportunity for him to make his mark.
Harrison Halpin is another example of this progression. Also just 17 years old, Halpin has been involved with the senior squad throughout the season and featured against AS Roma during pre-season at the age of just 16. He subsequently made his first-team competitive debut against Swindon Town in the Jersey Mike’s Subs Trophy in September.
The club has seen several other academy graduates make their first-team competitive debuts in recent seasons, with Harri Pugh and Moses Alexander-Walker both taking that step in 2025.
Everyone at Newport County would like to congratulate Rocco on this fantastic achievement and wish him every success for the future at Rodney Parade.
