Newport County return to Rodney Parade to face Cambridge United in EFL League Two.

Newport are looking to haul themselves out of the bottom two following an impressive victory over Salford City in midweek.

Cambridge will be aiming to cement their status in the top three automatic promotion places by the end of the afternoon.

Christian Fuchs was adamant the result would come after a few defeats on the road, and so it proved at the Peninsula Stadium on Tuesday.

Goals from Ryan Delaney, Ben Lloyd and Nathaniel Opoku gave The Exiles a priceless victory away from home, their first since last October.

The 178 away fans in Greater Manchester were given renewed belief that County could turn their form around as spring veers into view.

This is the first game at Rodney Parade since their 0-0 draw with Grimsby Town on 7 February.

Neil Harris has driven Cambridge United to the top three on a scorching run of form.

Six straight wins ushered in the new year for The U’s, with a momentary blip away to Harrogate proving to be a mere bump in the road.

They currently sit third in the table, and can close the gap to league leaders Bromley to just a point if results go in their favour.

Their nearest challengers, Milton Keynes Dons and Notts County, stand two points behind them, with the onus on Cambridge to keep collecting points.

When the two Amber Armies have gone into battle, results have been fairly even between them.

Cambridge have won more games, 17 to Newport’s 14, with only 5 draws to speak of.

However, the men from Cambridgeshire have won the last three, and haven’t lost to Newport since 2020.

In the reverse fixture last August, Cambridge comfortably ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Kelland Watts and James Brophy.

The last time Newport beat Cambridge in a league match was in April 2019, when they ran out 3-0 winners at the Abbey Stadium.
