Fuming County boss Christian Fuchs was shaking with rage after his men slumped to a 14th League Two defeat of the campaign as winter showed it's fangs at Colchester's JobServe Community Stadium.
The Exiles, without a league win for almost two months and rooted to the floor of their section for most of that time, have now shipped 41 goals in 21 matches, not including cup games, Strikes by U's tormentors Kyreece Lisbie, Samson Torvide, Micah Mbick and substitute Jack Payne, in either half making it a rotten afternoon in Essex.
Not even borrowed Leicester linkman Sammy Braybrooke's spectacular 67th minute consolation goal, lightened Fuch, who had emerged stern-faced from the County dressing room after the whistle.
Ranted Fuchs, "We need to show more ****! We were too passive from the start here. I wanted us on the front foot from the very start of the game, that didn't happen.
"There were too many individual errors and that disappointed me so much, said Fuchs adding, "we showed what we are capable of in our last three league games coming into the Colchester fixture. I didn't see any of those qualities for large parts of this match..
"We did show some control for 20 minutes in the second half, but then another mistake cost us, It was all too late then."
County, who receive Barnet and Crewe at Rodney Parade on Boxing Day and the 29th respectively, then visit high-flying Bromley on New Year's Day.
Including the home date with Tranmere on January 4, the Port have 25 games remaining and Fuchs declared, "We have 75 points to play for, so all our mistakes need to be corrected now. I still believe in my players, but things need to change."
Fuchs expects to bring in up to four new faces in the January window which opens shortly. County are now five points from safety in League Two - Bristol Rovers grasping 22nd spot.
He said, "We do need players that can freshen us up to give us an extra five or 10 percent.
"We must have added strength to take us forward. We have identified targets and are working toward them. Ideally, I'd like to get people in as soon as possible for them to bed in with the squad."
Asked if extending midfield dynamo Braybrook's loan from Championship Leicester City would be a key factor in keeping Newport in the Football League, Fuchs snapped, "This situation is not all on his shoulders. That is too much to ask
"I think we can still turn things around, but we must start changing things now. There is still over half this season to play."
