Match Report | Accrington Stanley 0-1 Newport County

Accrington MR (A)

Newport County made it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium in this afternoon's Sky Bet League Two outing.

Bobby Kamwa’s deflected cross found its way into the net to give the Exiles the lead and proved to be the difference between the two sides this afternoon.

Looking start positively, Kamwa saw his effort from a difficult angle saved by Accrington’s Oliver Wright after just six minutes.

Just moments later, Kamwa was back amongst the action as his cross picked out Michael Spellman at the back post, but the winger couldn’t get his header on target.

Looking to create a chance of their own, Accrington’s Paddy Madden was picked out with a low cross, but the experienced striker couldn’t get the ball out of his feet before the ball was cleared.

Continuing their determined start, Spellman fired his header against the woodwork, and the rebound was quickly cleared by the Reds’ defence.

In the dying moments of the half, the Exiles’ persistence finally paid off. Kamwa displayed some clever footwork to create space for a cross, and his driven delivery was deflected past Wright, giving Newport a deserved lead heading into the break.

Half-Time

Early into to the second half, Kai Whitmore found himself in the Accrington box, but the midfielder couldn’t get his cross off.

Looking for an equaliser, Accrington began to pressure the Exiles’ box, forcing Jordan Wright to rush out and punch Liam Coyle’s cross clear.

Continuing to apply pressure, Accrington’s Joe Bauress saw his headed chance tipped over the crossbar by Wright.

Moments later, Isaac Heath found himself in a shooting position, but the wing back’s effort was dragged wide.

Looking to add a second, Sammy Braybrooke fired a shot from long range, but the effort curled wide.

Bauress fired a first-timed volley goalwards, but the effort was blocked and well defender by the Exiles.
